Butterfly Exhibit @ The Smithsonian Natural History Museum
Behold the beauty of a living butterfly exhibit. People of all ages continue to be entranced by the live butterfly exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. This is a perfect destination if you are looking for something to fill up the summer days or if you just want some quality family time. Lush plants are the backdrop for this intoxicating space that also hosts birds, fish and turtles. The Museum also has a number of other noteworthy exhibitions. Now for the facts, tickets are required for the Butterfly Pavilion. Try to purchase tickets online to avoid sold out time-slots. Tickets are also available at the Museum on a first-come, first-served basis. Prices per ticket are Adults $6, Seniors $5.50 (60+), Children $5 (2 to 12) and Members $5 (available by phone or at box office). The Butterfly Pavilion’s first entry is 10:15 AM and the last entry is 5:00 PM on the days when the Museum closes at 5:30 PM. Note, hours are extended in the summer months. Watson Adventures - Great Fun For Out-Of-Towners & Locals...
This is too fun! Watson Adventures has been hosting scavenger hunts in the DC Metro area for nearly a decade. If you have out-of-town guests, check out the "The Secrets of Georgetown Tour". See the best of Georgetown while uncovering amazing tales and nooks. One of the best things about the G-town hunt is its variety, covering parts of the neighborhood with three distinct personalities. Highlights include a 19th-century canal, chic shops in historic buildings on M Street, JFK’s first Washington home and the neighbor honored by reporters for providing coffee in the cold, the birthplace of the computer, a former prison that Lincoln visited, the Old Stone House and its tranquil garden, “sunken” houses, magnificent mansions, movie locations, hidden alleys, a tavern where Founding Fathers tippled, and a bar that was the birthplace of a famous cheesy song. Want something for the whole family, drop in for The American Museum Madness Family Scavenger Hunt for ages 7 and up. Clyde's At Willow Creek
After living in the DC Metro area for nearly a decade, I am always looking for a new restaurant to add to the list of potential Saturday night escapes. After being told that I must see Clyde’s Willow Creek Farm in Ashburn, VA, I admit I was a little leery. On date nights I tend to make my way into the District versus a suburban haunt. But friends assured me that Willow Creek was worth the trip. While it wasn’t DC or Arlington, I welcomed the opportunity to take a break from Rt. 66, Constitution Avenue and valet parking. It was very nice to take a leisurely ride to Loudoun County on a beautiful Virginia evening. Ahh…no traffic. In addition to a stress-free ride and plenty of parking, the restaurant didn’t disappointment. The aesthetics were amazing. The structure is a collage of restored barns and historic taverns that Clyde’s Restaurant Group bought over the years and stored for a future restaurant project. It all comes together at this impressive venue. Willow Creek’s property size allowed for each of the different and unique structures to be reassembled and put together for one amazing restaurant. You can also add wonderful food and a thoughtful wait staff to the list of accomplishments. The biggest highlight for me was the gorgeous outdoor garden. People flock to the patio. It is filled with tables for seasonal dining, teak benches and a huge koi-filled pond adorned with swan fountains. I would recommend Willow Creek for brunch, a date night or a destination when entertaining out-of-town guests. Kids are welcome. As you might expect, Willow Creek is incredibly popular. While reservations aren’t required, I would highly recommend that you book a table. Walk-ins can wait as long as 2 hours. Do yourself a favor and book a table on www.Opentable.com. Restaurant LINK.
